Other names:: What type of hut is this? This is a Varaustupa / Varaustuvat. In Finnish this translates to “Reservable Huts.” Basically this is the same as an "Autiotupa" (which is free but cant be reserved) this one can be reserved online, usually for a small fee. They are also an enclosed cabins that can be reserved. Keep in mind though they are a shared cabin. Most likely 1 large room where everyone sleeps. They are also on trails where hikers, skiers and kayakers can use them. They are also locked and you need to get a key. Usually the key is in a lockbox on the cabin or at a local store. Sometimes it is confusing, because there is one building that is split into two parts. One side is the free Autiotupa, and the other side is the reservable Varaustupa that costs a small fee. To find these on huts.fi use the advanced filter called “Type of Hut” select “cabin” and use the advanced filter “Can I sleep overnight” select “YES." You could also add the filter “At the location” and select “sauna” to find ones with a sauna. If you are looking for a small Varaustupa, try the advanced filter "Beds / Max People" and choose a number.
