Finnish Names:: What type of hut is this? This is a Vuokratupa / Vuokratuvat / eräkämppä: This translates to “Rental Huts.” Which is also an enclosed cabin that can be rented for overnight stay. The big difference between these types of huts and other huts you pay a fee for in Finalnd, is this hut you are renting whole cabin. Usually around the same cost as an AirBNB. You can reserve it, usually online. It is not shared with anyone. Some are located on hiking trails & others on lakes & rivers where you can drive your car easily to. They are locked. Many place a lockbox at the cabin, so after you pay usually you get sent a key code. Others will have you pick up the key at local store. They are used by hikers, skiers, mountain bikers or kayakers on trails & routes. Usually the cabins are rugged, but have everything you need. Bunk beds, table, indoor fireplace, stove, basic cookware and an outdoor toilet. Some might have mattresses, pillows and blankets. Like most cabins, there will be a woodpile, axe and saw you can use. If you see the word “kämppä” in the name of an Vuokratupa it usually means it is a very small rugged cabin. Kämpät were originally used by reindeer herders or working men. However, the Finnish government has renovated many into Vuokratupa or Autiotupa. To find these on huts.fi use the advanced filter called “Type of Hut” select “cabin” and use the advanced filter “Can I sleep overnight” select “YES.” You could also add the filter “At the location” and select “sauna” to find ones with a sauna. If you are looking for a large Vuokratupa, try the advanced filter "Beds / Max People" and choose a number.
