Description: Katerma boat launch site is in the village of Katerma and is located at the western end of Lake Ontojärvi, right at the mouth of the Ontojoki River. This serves as a landing point on the Kainuu Tervareitti water hiking kayaking route. There is a gravel boat launch on the beach, where you can launch at least a rowing boat. The beach is a gravel beach that deepens relatively quickly. KAYAKERS: This beach serves as the starting point for bypassing the Katerma hydroelectric power plant. Further down, towards the power plant, the river has been built into a chute and there is no way up. The current near the power plant can be dangerously strong! You can see on the map the portage route. It is 1.8 km so you will need a trailer.
