Description: The Kainuu Tervareit kaying route is a total of 185 km from Kuhmo to Sotkamo to Kajaani. This is the 2nd part of the trip from Kuhmo to Sotkamo. There are many rapids on this part and power plants you will need to portage around. You start the trip on the Pajakkajoki River, the rapids are easy to go by. Then you go to Lake Ontojärvi where you have a couple options on islands to camp: Ylä-Honkinen Ärjä After you pass Lake Ontojärvi you go into Ontojoki River which has 2 long kayak portages to go through the power plants (you will need a trailer). After this there are couple nice places you can rest or spend the night. kurikkalahden Laavu lehtosaaren laavu Then you go to Lake Kiimasjärvi that leads to Kaitainsalmi, which is known for great fishing, especially salmon. The ride from here down to Sotkamo is relaxed and beautiful. Before getting out at Sotkamo a good camping spot is: Eskosaari
