Description

Touruvuori Nature Trail is about 3.5 km in Palokka, Jyväskylä, in Central Finland. It climbs through a roughly 40-hectare nature reserve on Touruvuori hill, mixing forest, rocky slopes, and patches of mire, and reaches a summit at about 203 m above sea level with wide views over the city and surroundings. Visit Jyväskylä Region’s trail listing rounds typical walking time to about one to two hours and notes clockwise travel, yellow blazes, POLKU posts, and 20 information boards on the full circuit (14 on the shorter option). The described walk is followed clockwise. After a gentle climb of about 700 m, a short but steep pull leads to the summit; the path then runs along the west side of the ridge, turns east and south, and returns toward the start along the east side. You can shorten the outing to about 2 km by turning back from the summit. The ground is often rocky and uneven, with structures on the steepest pitches; in wet weather the lower sections can be slippery or soggy, so sturdy, waterproof footwear helps. The city does not recommend the nature trail for small children, older walkers with balance concerns, or people with limited mobility. The nature trail itself is not winter-maintained, but groomed ski tracks and lit running circuits lie in the same Touruvuori outdoor area in season. The trail is about 3.5 km for the full circuit as mapped. Published descriptions often round to about 3 km and describe a roughly 2 km shortcut from the summit. Allow about 1–2 hours on foot. The surface is natural earth and rock, with boardwalk or step-like structures on the steepest pitches.

Getting there

The trailhead board stands in the forest at the end of Raivaajantie, near the sports field; a POLKU sign on the north side of the fitness track points toward it. You can arrive by car, bicycle, or Linkki bus—check current lines and times on Linkki’s site. Use Pappilanvuori parkkipaikka when driving; it lies in the same Touruvuori recreation area as the route.

Good to know

Follow leave-no-trace practice: carry litter out with you. Groomed winter trails surround the hill but the nature trail is not maintained in winter. For dog rules and any local notices, rely on the city’s outdoor pages.
