Description

Elba–Harrbådan is about 1.6 km of marked hiking path on the Kaustarinlahti shore in Kokkola, Central Ostrobothnia, linking Harriniemen lintutorni with Rummelön lintutorni. It sits inside the same Rummelö–Harrbåda bird wetland and coastal recreation area that the City of Kokkola and national outdoor listings describe as a Natura 2000 site with shallow bays, reedbeds, meadows, and deciduous woods—an important stop for migrating waterfowl and waders. Luontoon.fi presents the wider Rummelö–Harrbådan nature trail network in the same landscape. From Harriniemen lintutorni you are already in the heart of the wetland: the tower is a natural first stop for scanning the bay. About 1.3 km along the route you reach Rummelön lintutorni, another raised viewpoint over the reeds and meadows. Together, these two towers bracket the short linear segment and make the walk as much about birdwatching as about moving through the terrain. This line is also where several other outdoor routes meet: winter ski tracks such as Latu Trullevi–Harbåda and Elban ladut, the longer Luontopolku Rummelö–Harrbåda hiking loop, Vanhan Kallen kinttupolku with its laavu at Santahaka, and walking and ski connections toward Sannanranta. If you are planning a longer day, you can combine this segment with those routes or use the Villa Elba yard as a base for food and services. Length & route

The trail is about 1.6 km as one line between the Harriniemi and Rummelö bird towers. The City of Kokkola describes the full Rummelö–Harrbådan nature trail network at about 4 km with additional options, including an easy duckboard section and sand paths toward Harrbåda—this database line isolates the shorter tower-to-tower segment.

Getting there

The main access hub for the wider area is Youth Centre Villa Elba at Sannanrannantie 59: drive through the gate from the parking area toward the shore trails. The City of Kokkola also lists a second approach from the end of Harrinniementie near the Harrbåda beacon for the longer Rummelö–Harrbåda loop. Local buses serve Meritulli roughly two kilometres away; Retkipaikka notes that connection for walkers who arrive without a car.

Good to know

Bird nesting season in the wetland is treated as 15 April–31 July: stay on marked routes during that window. Sheep often graze the meadows in summer to maintain open coastal habitats. There is no winter maintenance on these paths; skiing visitors use separate groomed tracks where shown.
