Description

Old Kalle's foot trail is an easy, marked hiking path of about 4.6 km one way between the Santahaka outdoor area and Harriniemi in Kokkola, Central Ostrobothnia. The City of Kokkola lists it among the city’s hiking routes and classifies it as an easy trail. For seasonal rules in the shared Rummelö–Harrbåda bird wetland and shore area—Natura 2000, shallow bays, reeds, and meadows—use the Rummelö–Harrbåda pages; those pages also describe how the wider shore network links Villa Elba, the Rummelö and Harrbåda bird towers, and downloadable map sheets that show this line. From the Santahaka side you soon pass Santahaka, laavu, a lean-to with a fireplace and table—handy for a break before or after the forested section. About 3 km along the route you are near Rummelön lintutorni, a raised viewpoint over the reedbeds and Kaustarinlahti margin. Getting there

The route is shown on Kokkola’s outdoor maps together with Trullevi, Villa Elba, and the Rummelö–Harrbåda shore area; printable sheets linked from the Rummelö–Harrbåda pages include this line. An information board at Santahaka by the kuntorata (running track) shows the Santahaka–Harrbåda area and waymarks toward Old Kalle's foot trail. The Rummelö–Harrbåda area is also reached from Youth Centre Villa Elba at Sannanrannantie 59 and from the end of Harrinniementie near the Harrbåda beacon for walks that loop through the bird towers.

Good to know

In the shared bird wetland, stay on marked routes during nesting season (15 April–31 July). Spring and autumn are strong seasons for birdwatching from the towers. Keep dogs on a leash and pick up waste where local rules apply, as on other shore trails described on the same pages.
