Syväjärvi is an ideal first fishing spot for families in Ukkohalla. The lake has steep shores, is mostly shallow, and allows easy fishing from the land or its pontoon bridge. Fish available include rainbow trout, salmon, pike, and perch. Fishing season is year-round with varying fees depending on the season and age.

The Lietejoki River rapids fishing spot. There are 20km of forested river rapids fishing. This is a lure fishing spot and the city stocks fish. The water is clear and the bottom sandy or gravel so it is easy to wade if the water. Many come to fish for trout. Luvankoski are rapids that are known for great fishing. A hiking trail with huts have been established right next to it. Many people come to catch lake trout. There are several deep pools for great catches. There are also perch & whitefish. The waters are stocked with fish. The fishing season begins on the last Friday of May at 6:00 PM and ends on August 31st at 12:00 AM. Luvankoski and Mikitänjoki fishing permits €15/day, €120/season.

Vuonteenkoski, located in Niva, Kuhmo, is a 125-meter-long rapids. Fishing is only allowed from the northern side. There is a laavu at the end of the rapids. The rapids are straight and there are many fish holes on the northern side.
