The Paltaniemi/Toukka route is a point-to-point paddle of about 7.9 km on Lake Oulujärvi in Kajaani, Kainuu. It crosses open water from the Paltaniemi shore toward Toukansaari (also called Toukka), a forested island between Ärjänselkä and Paltaselkä. The City of Kajaani groups this line with other local kayaking corridors in the Melo Kajaanissa guide and on its paddling hub, with links to regional water-trail maps. For landings and overnight etiquette on the island, the city's islands page describes Toukansaari's two lean-tos, firewood at the shelters, and that fires are allowed only at designated campfire sites. Getting there

Most paddlers stage a vehicle at Paltaniemen parkkipaikka or launch from Paltaniemen venesatama near Satamatie, then follow the mapped corridor toward Toukka. Poijun retkisatama at Poijutie 78 offers an alternative mid-shore stop with a defined address. On the island, use Toukansaaren rantautumispaikka and walk to the laavut at lieranpää and Pöllänpää as needed. For a one-way paddle, arrange a shuttle between Paltaniemi and a suitable take-out, or return along the same line. Good to know

Fishing from a kayak on Oulujärvi follows national and regional permit rules; check Eräluvat before fishing from the boat. In high winds or thunder, postpone the crossing. Respect private shore strips and landing etiquette at harbours and beaches.
