A map of 3 Ferries & Crossings in Kuhmo.

You can go around Iso Lentuakoski rapids (3.3 meter fall, which is difficult to navigate) using this old towpath. It goes from Lake Lentua, to the Välisuvanto. It is around 350 meters. You will still need to navigate the smaller rapids below. Those rapids are 400 meters and a fall of 1.8 m.

A 200 meter tow path that goes around Kaarneenkoski (rapids) connects Niskajärvi on the Iivantiirajärvi side to Lentua. Kaarneenkoski is the southernmost of the Niva village's streams and is very challenging. It is only accessible during high tide.

If you are kayking the Kainuu Tervareit and want an alternative route, this is a place you could launch or a place where you can transport your kayaks. The Huuhkajankannas towpath was originally built 100 years ago when tar was transported by row boats to Oulu. The length of the track is 600 meters. The easternmost and wilder branch of the Kainuu Tervareit water hiking trail leads from Iivantiirajärvi to Juttuajärvi. A towpath has been built from its southernmost point, Huuhkajalahti, to Lentua. The Huuhkajankannas towpath from Juttua to Lentua creates a nice alternative route to the Kainuu Tervareitiu. Lentua leads to Huuhkajalampi and further to the waters of Lentua. The eastern side of Lentua is nicely archipelagoed, which protects the kayaker from stronger winds. The landscapes are more wilderness than the western route. A rail-mounted trailer makes it easier to move kayaking equipment or a light rowing boat from one lake to another. The equipment can be moved conveniently and relatively effortlessly on a powered trailer.

Note: Our database was last synced in 2026. While we strive for accuracy, always consult the official website which we display on each place or route or notices at the trail for safety-critical updates or seasonal closures.
No. Huts.fi is an independent Finnish platform. While we work with official open-data sets from organizations like Metsähallitus, we are a private entity.
Yes. Accessing our maps, trail data, and field information is currently free for all users.
