Description

Repoveden Lapinsalmen kota is a free, open kota on the Lapinsalmi day-use and campfire site in Repovesi National Park near Kouvola in Kymenlaakso; Metsähallitus National Parks Finland publishes current visitor information and rules for the park on Luontoon.fi. The kota dates from 2003 and sits on the Lapinsalmi strait area east of Lapinsalmi Bridge, about 500 metres from the Lapinsalmi entrance and parking. The site is widely used for day trips; the Fox Loop, Kaakkurinkierros and wider Repovesi trails network pass through or by the area, and the Repovesi–Tihvetjärvi paddling route and Repovesi mountain bike routes are among the ways people reach or explore the surroundings. The kota has a central hearth and chimney together with a dining shelter; the yard has additional fire rings and a woodshed stocked with firewood and tools for cutting it. Dry toilets sit uphill from the kota. Two docks serve canoes and scheduled water-bus traffic. The ground is steep around the immediate kota area, so tent camping there is awkward; Metsähallitus points visitors who need more level tent space toward Kapiavesi tulentekopaikka about 600 metres away. In winter the path is not mechanically maintained, yet walkers often keep a passable track in snow. The hearth inside the kota may still be used during grass and forest fire warnings because of the chimney; Metsähallitus stresses checking the Finnish Meteorological Institute’s warnings and any extra bans before lighting fires outdoors in the yard. The approach from the Lapinsalmi entrance is not suitable for barrier-free access. Dogs are allowed but must be kept on leash; see national park rules.
