Description

Hannukuru sauna is a wood-heated public sauna beside Haukkajärvi at Hannukuru in Pallas-Yllästunturi National Park, roughly halfway along the Hetta–Pallas hiking trail in Enontekiö, Lapland. Pay the sauna fee in advance through Eraluvat.fi and keep proof with you so everyone in your group is covered; Metsähallitus runs the building as part of a busy wilderness service yard on the trail. There is no electricity—the stove and wash water are heated with firewood, and washing water comes from a nearby pond, heated in a cauldron, with basins in the sauna—bring a towel and a headlamp. The building is always open; public turns follow a three-hour rhythm starting with a joint session at 12:00, then women’s and men’s slots, with details posted on the wall. During joint turns, wear a towel or swimsuit. Private bookings are not offered. After löyly, many people cool off from Hannukuru uimalaituri or walk a few steps to the lake. Drinking water is available a short walk away at Hannukuru talousvesikaivo. Overnight visitors often use Hannukurun varaustupa, Hannukuru autiotupa, or Hannukuru telttailualue in the same yard. In winter the Muonion latuverkosto, Sioskuru-Hannukuru latu, and Raattaman ladut networks pass nearby, and in summer the Hetta–Hietajärvi–Vuontisjärvi–Hannukuru summer trails link the area to longer valley routes. Metsähallitus describes the sauna as a demanding wilderness destination: it is not reachable during spring thaw, and in winter navigation and weather can be difficult with only a few hours of daylight. In the national park, dogs must be kept on a leash, as explained in the national park instructions and rules. Getting there

Reach the sauna on foot or skis via the Hetta–Pallas hiking trail at the Hannukuru yard by Haukkajärvi, roughly halfway between Hetta and Pallas. There is no road or parking at the building itself. Metsähallitus publishes current arrival and seasonal access notes on Eraluvat.fi.
