Description

Rantaniity Nature Trail is about 0.6 km of easy, compacted gravel path beside Liminka Bay (Liminganlahti), in Liminka in North Ostrobothnia. It was built to bring visitors closer to meadow and shore habitats that are hard to reach elsewhere on the bay. For route facts and service updates, start with the trail page on Luontoon.fi. The City of Liminka and Visit Liminka describe Liminka Bay as a year-round bird destination with walking routes starting from the visitor centre area. From the Liminganlahden luontokeskus yard the path runs past a sheep pasture edge and themed nature trail boards illustrated by cartoonist Seppo Leinonen, which Rantalakeus described when the route opened in spring 2021. About halfway along you pass near Virkkulan katselutasanne, the lower viewing deck below Virkkula tower, a natural add-on if you want wider views over the meadows. The line finishes close to Liminganlahden luontokeskus, where exhibits, a shop, and visitor facilities anchor a full day out. Getting there

Liminka Bay visitor centre is at Rantakurvi 6, 91900 Liminka. Large visitor parking, caravan space, and covered fireplaces sit beside the centre; that is the normal start for Rantaniity and the parallel bird-tower path. Allow a few minutes on foot from the parking field to the trail fork beside the centre buildings.

History

Planning and construction were under way in April 2021 as a joint project of the Municipality of Liminka and Metsähallitus Luontopalvelut, funded through Metsähallitus nature-service budgets and parliamentary future-investment funding, with Liminka receiving €63,500 for nearby recreation improvements in the same programme. Cartoonist Seppo Leinonen illustrated the new nature trail boards, and the compacted-gravel path was designed to be accessible.
