Description

Temmesjoki Nature Trail is a short point-to-point hike in Liminka, North Ostrobothnia, from Temmesjoen marina toward Temmesjoen lintutorni at the river mouth. Length & route

The trail is about 1.9 km from the marina area to Temmesjoen lintutorni. The first section toward the cottage settlement is relatively level and easy underfoot on a wide gravel tread with bridges. Past that, the line includes a steeper short hill (longitudinal slope over eight percent) and can feel softer underfoot in wet seasons before the renewed duckboards near the tower. Duckboards may be slippery when wet.

Getting there

Start from Temmesjoen marina at the north side of the Temmesjoki corridor; the City of Liminka describes the trail as beginning from the harbour and running via the cottage area toward the tower. If you use public transport, regional buses from Oulu serve Liminka centre; continue by local roads toward the Temmesjoki shore as on the municipality’s outdoor pages. Parking is at the marina end of the walk; follow updated signs as the municipality refreshes waymarking after the renovation.

Good to know

The first segment to the cottage area is described as easier and barrier-free in municipal material; beyond that the hill and soft ground make the middle section more demanding for prams and wheels. History

In an autumn 2024 condition survey, Liminka found Temmesjoen luontopolku structures unsafe and closed the route. The municipality secured a 23 000 euro grant from the Uusimaa Centre for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment for renewing the trail, bird tower, rest structures, and related works, with municipal crews and partners including vocational students and local associations involved in the project. Metsähallitus and regional news also followed the Liminganlahti-area work on the approach to Temmesjokisuu.
