Description

Hangasneva is a restored peatland in Paavola, Siikajoki, North Ostrobothnia, where a compact hiking circuit runs about 4.2 km through wetland, forest, and watery channels. The City of Siikajoki describes the Hangasnevan retkeilyreitti as year-round: walking or mountain biking in the snow-free season, and skiing near the route in winter on the local trail network. Early in the circuit you pass Hangasnevan lintutorni; roughly halfway, Hangasnevan laavu and Hangasnevan laavun lintutorni sit close together for a break with views over the mire. Taipaleita’s on-the-ground account adds detail on blue paint marks and blue-topped posts, benches and boardwalks, and how long a leisurely circuit can take. Siikajokilaakso reported how Paavola residents designed and built the path and structures as volunteer work, with boardwalks sized so mountain bikers can pass, and how birdwatchers have recorded more than thirty species on the mire. Along the way you can expect roughly four hundred metres of duckboards, rest benches placed at viewpoints, three bird towers, a lean-to with a campfire place and dry toilet, and stretches between reed beds, birch-lined cuts along ditch banks, and open peatland. The City of Siikajoki warns that deep ditches, springs, and soft peat lie off the marked route—stay on the marked trail, and treat any ice travel as entirely your own risk. Getting there

The main trailhead and parking are on Vihannintie at Vihannintie 366, 92430 Paavola. The City of Siikajoki marks this as the official access point with space to park. Taipaleita notes the turn from regional road 86 toward the nature-trail parking is signed but easy to miss when driving—allow a moment to spot the small roadside sign.
