Municipality of Hartola – Recreation areas and outdoor routes+
Description
Downloadable trail maps and the wider Hartola walking, skiing, and cycling network are summarised on the Municipality of Hartola recreation and outdoor routes pages, which list Kurenlahden polku among the routes linking the sports area and ridge line into Kuninkaanpolku. Visit Lahti’s partner listing for Raijan Arboretum explains the private tree collection beside the path—roughly one hectare, ongoing plantings since 2008, and a look-but-don’t-touch visiting rule.
The trail is about 3.8 km as one marked hiking segment in Hartola, Päijät-Häme. It is not a loop on our map: it threads from the Tainionvirta shore through Koskenniskan and finishes at the Liikuntamaja sports cluster, where tennis courts, a disc field, fitness stairs, winter trails, and other municipality facilities sit along Visantie. Early on you pass Tainionvirran kalastusalueet, then Koskenniskan grillikatos and Koskenniskan venesatama on Aurinkorannantie—handy pause points before the path climbs toward the open Harju side. The same shore corner plugs into Kuninkaanpolku, Hartola, the accessible Kuninkaanpolku, esteetön Ekonpolku, and the Tainionvirran melontareitti/Hartola paddling line for longer days on water or foot.
Toward Liikuntamaja you move past Liikuntamajan tenniskentät, Liikuntamajan pesäpallokenttä, Liikuntamajan kuntosali, Liikuntamajan lentopallokenttä, Liikuntamajan luistelukenttä ja kaukalo, Liikuntamajan kuntoportaat, and Hartola DiscGolfPark—use those pages for facility hours or bookings before you plan a combo outing.
Underfoot it is easy forest walking with gentle elevation change; listings aimed at visitors quote about an hour at a normal pace and roughly twenty metres of ascent spread across the profile. There is no winter track grooming on the hiking line itself, so ice and drifted segments need the same care as any local forest path in snow. Trail posts carry white-painted tips so you can pick the line apart from older brown-signed posts that predated this addition.
Length & route
The trail is about 3.8 km on our map as a single non-loop hiking line. Linking Liikuntamaja with Koskenniemi through Kuninkaanpolku, Ekonpolku, and Koskenniemi shore routes stretches the day to roughly 14 km end to end when you want a longer tour. Allow about one hour for this segment at an easy pace.
Getting there
Approach from Highway 4 by turning onto Keskustie at Kuninkaanportti and following signs toward Hartola Golf, Itä-Hämeen opisto, and Linna Hotel; parking is signposted near Kaikulantie 86, 19600 Hartola. A second lot sits at Liikuntamaja on Visantie 29, 19600 Hartola—use whichever end matches your plan.
Good to know
YouTube searches did not surface a short overview clip that names this exact trail with high confidence—better to rely on maps plus the Municipality of Hartola downloads before you start. A side spur of about 250 m reaches Hartola Golfin tulentekopaikka with a view toward Lake Jääsjärvi and a toilet; firewood is not serviced there, so carry your own if you plan to use the fireplace. Raijan Arboretum stays private ground—respect the look-but-don’t-touch rule. Dog rules were not spelled out on the pages reviewed; keep dogs under control near shore anglers and sports yards.
History
Hartolan Latu built and signed Kurenlahden polku in 2020; early map boards from 2019 still lacked the new line, so the white-tipped markers were the clearest cue for the first seasons.
