Description

Runokangas is about a 2 km loop hiking trail that starts and finishes at Seitsemisen luontokeskus in Seitseminen National Park, in Ylöjärvi in Pirkanmaa. For current conditions and planning, the Seitseminen hiking and outdoor recreation material on Luontoon.fi is the authoritative channel. Retkipaikka’s park overview lists Runokangas explicitly as a 2 km loop from the nature centre and situates it among other short circuits such as Harjupolku. On the ground you leave the exhibition and café cluster at Seitsemisen luontokeskus, pass Pakkulakangas pysäköintialue roughly midway, follow the shore line at Ahvenlammi laituri, and return via Seitsemisen luontokeskus takkakatos by the nature centre—useful if you want a covered fireplace stop before or after the walk. The same area links naturally to the longer Harjupolku Ylöjärvi loop and to Luontokeskus-Koveron perinnetila toward Kovero farm; Paroonin taival is another long-distance hiking connection from this part of the park. Retkeilyä Satakunnassa ja muualla Suomessa notes plenty of roots and small height differences on good-condition forest tread near Ahvenlammi, and poetry boards along the path that invite slow reading. Yle reported in 2010 that the route grew out of the Pakkulakangas path as part of the Terveyttä Metsästä project, with poems placed on boards as rest points along a ridge spruce forest. The nature centre yard has play opportunities for children, a restaurant, and an outdoor fire place; the wider park offers many campfire sites and day-trip combinations if a 2 km loop feels short on its own.

Length & route

The trail is about 2 km as a single loop from Seitsemisen luontokeskus. Roughly 1 km in you pass Pakkulakangas pysäköintialue, then approach Ahvenlammi laituri before closing the loop at Seitsemisen luontokeskus takkakatos. The tread is described as good forest path with many roots and modest elevation change.

Getting there

Use Seitsemisen luontokeskus at Seitsemisentie 110, Länsi-Aure, Ylöjärvi—the Kulomäki parking and services described for the park on Retkipaikka tie in with this trailhead. On school days, regional buses stop about a kilometre away at the Länsi-Aure halt; see Matkahuolto for timetables. Pakkulakangas pysäköintialue sits along the loop if you need the stop that the trail passes at about 1 km from the nature-centre start.

Good to know

Follow national park waste and fire rules; Retkipaikka reminds visitors that recycling bins are not provided in the backcountry so you carry litter out. Combine with Harjupolku Ylöjärvi or routes toward Kovero if you want a longer day.

History

In 2010 Yle described Runokangas as carved from the Pakkulakangas trail under the Terveyttä Metsästä (Health from the Forest) initiative: a 2 km summer-use path on a ridge in handsome spruce forest, with selected nature-themed poems mounted on boards as stopping points along the route and an opening event planned for September 2010. A jury including MEP Satu Hassi, poet Arto Lappi, and Seitsemisen luontokeskus staff chose submissions for radio and the trail.
