Description

Söderlångvik gravel is a gravel-road day ride on forest roads and shoreline lanes around Söderlångvik Manor and the Ölmos–Purunpää countryside in Kemiönsaari. The ride on our map is about 27 km. Konstsamfundet published the route in spring 2024 with a printable PDF, downloadable GPX, and stage notes on the outdoor trails page; the roads themselves are not marked with paint or arrows, so you navigate from the file or map. The Kemiönsaari activity map layers the route for on-phone browsing. Visit Kemiönsaari also lists day-ride ideas on the island alongside the longer Rannikkoreitti corridor. For a readable kilometre-by-kilometre account of the beaches, forest roads, optional Glasberget viewpoint stop, and Sundsvedja shelter, Retkipaikka’s 2024 ride story is worth following. The route is aimed at gravel, mountain, and hybrid bikes with tyres suited to loose gravel; narrow road-racing tyres are a poor match for long unpaved sections. In winter, local riders often choose a fatbike when snow cover is deep. Official stage ideas run from the manor to Ölmos, onward through Purunpää, past Sundsvedja, and back to the manor over roughly 32 km of road choices in the brochure; the line we publish is about 27 km as one continuous ride. About 12 km into the ride you reach the Västerbuktenin uimaranta swimming beach on the Ölmos shore—a natural break with sea views toward Archipelago National Park. Further along the Purunpää section, the Sundsvedjan laavu lean-to sits above the forest with a fireplace and firewood; it sits on the same hillside cluster as Purunpään retkeilyreitistö and Laavureitti walking lines if you want to stretch your legs off the bike. Closer to the manor finish, the Söderlångvikin talviuintipaikka winter swimming spot marks the coastal side of the estate. The longer Rannikkoreitti cycling corridor passes through the same municipality and can extend a stay into a multi-day coastal tour. Kulttuuripolkaisu Dragsfjärden järven ympäri is another signed day loop in the same lake landscape when you want a shorter culture-themed circuit.

Length & route

The gravel ride on our map is about 27 km as one continuous line. Konstsamfundet’s brochure splits the day into four stages (manor–Ölmos about 10.5 km, Ölmos–Purunpää about 11 km, Purunpää–Sundsvedja about 7.5 km, Sundsvedja–manor about 3 km) totalling roughly 32 km depending on exact road choices. Expect forest roads, short climbs, and occasional gate poles that still allow bicycles past.

Getting there

Start and finish at Söderlångvik Manor, Amos Anderson vägen 2, Dragsfjärd. The estate publishes parking for cars and arriving cyclists on the outdoor trails page. Buses run toward Taalintehdas; Retkipaikka measured about 6.6 km from the Kulla stop to the manor area for riders connecting by public transport. Use the PDF or GPX from Konstsamfundet rather than looking for on-ground paint.

Good to know

Campfires at Sundsvedjan laavu follow the landowner’s rules; carry out litter and respect private yards when the road briefly crosses farmsteads. The Nordic Gravel Series has used Kemiönsaari for event weekends; check Visit Kemiönsaari for current race dates if you want to avoid overlapping with a mass-start event.
