Description

Lammenrahka Nature Trail is a compact loop hike of about 1.9 km on the west side of Lake Savojärvi in Mynämäki, Southwest Finland. The route lies in the Kurjenrahka National Park landscape beside the Kuhankuono hiking trail system, which the City of Mynämäki presents together with neighbouring municipalities as a large summer hiking, trail cycling and outdoors network centred on Kurjenrahka. For trailhead services, connections and the wider Lake Savojärvi circuit, the Kuhankuono hiking trail system’s Savojärven kierros page is the clearest official overview. The loop is best understood as a short nature branch off the popular roughly 6 km Lake Savojärvi circuit. After leaving the Rantapiha service area on that circuit, walkers can peel off onto this nature loop or stay on the main lakeshore boardwalk route. Within the forested loop you follow a narrow marked path with occasional three-post information boards; one visitor found that marking was intermittently hard to read in places and that the character of the loop was more woodland than open bog boardwalk, unlike the long duckboard stretches on the main Lake Savojärvi route. That makes it a good add-on when you want a quieter, slightly more interpretive circle before or after the showier lakeshore sections of Savojärvi kierros. Toward the end of the loop you pass Savojärven uimapaikka on Savojärventie, a small swimming spot on the lake where you can cool off in summer. Longer trips in the same area include Savojärvi kierros along the shore and boardwalks, and Pukkipalo trail through old-growth Pukkipalo, both part of the same Kuhankuono network. Mynämäki is the home municipality on our map for this line; Varsinais-Suomi offers fast road access toward Turku and the rest of Southwest Finland.

Length & route

The trail is about 1.9 km as one loop. The branch is described from the west-shore hiking network near Rantapiha and returns to the same corner of Lake Savojärvi, so it fits as a short nature extension while the main Lake Savojärvi trail continues along marked boardwalk and forest segments of roughly 6 km in total. Another visitor reported walking on the order of two kilometres on the nature branch and finding it somewhat longer than the kilometre figure printed on an older on-site note.

Getting there

Practical access is easiest through the Lake Savojärvi trail network. From the west, Rantapiha lies along Savojärventie on the Nousiainen side of the lake with a named parking coordinate published by the Kuhankuono hiking trail system. Savojärven uimapaikka sits at Savojärventie 100 at the swimming stop along this loop. From the east, travellers often use Kurjenpesä at Kuhankuonontie 70 in Pöytyä, also listed with coordinates on the same official page, and walk the main circuit to reach the west-shore junction. In summer, regional bus connections can reach stops near Kurjenportti on highway 204; detailed stop names are on the Lake Savojärvi trail page.

Good to know

The entire area sits in Kurjenrahka National Park. Stay on marked trails, carry out litter, and follow national park rules for pets and fires as described on Metsähallitus outdoor pages linked from the Kuhankuono network material or national park sources. The main Lake Savojärvi trail is heavily used compared with this short branch; ice and snow can make duckboards slippery when winter access is possible. Rantapiha offers drinking water, tent pitches, seasonal kiosk and sauna options on weekends in summer; Kurjenpesä has accessible routes toward the separate Karpalopolku and a nature centre area.
