Description

Vajosuo Mire Trail is about 2.6 km across the Vajosuo mire edge in Rusko, Southwest Finland, beside Kurjenrahka National Park’s open bogs and crane country. Rusko lies a short drive from Turku; expect spruce forest at first, then views toward the mire, short duckboard crossings, and rocky forest footpaths with yellow diamond markers along the circuit. Within the first few hundred metres you reach Vajosuon laavu - Rusko for a roofed break, Vajosuon luontotorni for views over the wetland and birdwatching, and Vajosuon keittokatos with Vajosuon nuotiokehä for cooking and a campfire ring. About 2.2 km from the start along the line you approach Vajosuon pysäköintialue, the main gravel parking on Vajosuontie used by many day visitors. The same wetland hub links into Kuhankuono retkeilyreitistö for multi-day hikes toward Savojärvi and Kurjenpesä, and the shorter Vajosuo reitti variant overlaps these shelters. Length & route

The trail is about 2.6 km along the Vajosuo fringe as mapped here. Terrain blends spruce forest, short bog boardwalks, and rooty rockier paths; outdoor writers often round the same circuit to about three kilometres for walking time. Allow roughly one to one-and-a-half hours with photo stops and a tower climb. The nearly 30 km Vajosuon vaellus on Kuhankuono retkeilyreitistö is a separate long-distance tour that shares Lavamäentie trailheads with this area—plan maps accordingly if you branch onto that route.

Getting there

Most day hikers use Vajosuon pysäköintialue on Vajosuontie beside the Vajosuo sign; the gravel lot fits roughly ten cars and fills quickly on fine Sundays. The wider Kuhankuono network also lists Lavamäentie 832, Rusko, as the southern “Vajosuo” car park for longer hikes from that trail system. Trails are not groomed in winter but those access yards are ploughed after snow. Confirm duckboards or diversion notices on Luontoon.fi before you travel.

Good to know

Kurjenrahka is Varsinais-Suomi’s largest national park mosaic; cranes and bog species are a main draw—bring binoculars for Vajosuon luontotorni. Dogs are allowed in Finnish national parks on leash. Firewood stocks at lean-tos can vary; check Luontoon.fi or on-site notices before lighting a fire.
