Description

Uusikaupunki lies in Southwest Finland; Kasarminlahti is only a couple of kilometres south of the market square, so walking or cycling from the centre is easy when you do not need a car. From the Kasarminlahdentie 8 end you pass Sairaalan tenniskentät x2, then Sorvakon urheilukentän ulkokuntoilulaitteet beside Sorvakon sports area. About half a kilometre along, Kasarminlahden esteetön luontolava marks the birdwatching end of the accessible boardwalk: a long gentle ramp with railings reaches the platform over the water, with views across the bay and shore meadows. The city lists wide crushed-stone paths and rest platforms, benches, and an accessible composting toilet on this section. History

Yle reported in 2019 that Uusikaupunki planned an accessible nature trail and bird platform at Kasarminlahti with a cost estimate near eighty thousand euros and intentions to apply for state support. Metsätrans noted twenty thousand euros from Yara's Uusikaupunki works toward the platform, Environment Ministry funding, and an aim to finish the platform in autumn 2021 so spring migrants could be watched from the new structure. The City of Uusikaupunki now states the accessible trail was completed in summer 2022 and names Yara's Uusikaupunki factories plus ELY Centre financing for the bird platform and water-environment work.
