Description
This short mountain-bike line sits in the Oittaa outdoor area on the southern shore of Lake Bodom in Espoo, Uusimaa, threaded beside the groomed ski and fitness corridor the city maintains through the same woods. The City of Espoo describes undulating singletrack with partly gravelled tread, some rock, and normal forest floor, all built next to the winter ski and summer fitness track. The mapped ride is about 1.2 km end to end; the city’s text often rounds to 1.3 km for the same feature. Visit Espoo’s Oittaa outdoor area page fills in the bigger picture—beach life on Bodomjärvi, restaurant and sauna, disc golf, and how bus 246 / 246K links the site to Espoon keskus—plus seasonal equipment rental from the leisure-centre café or beach hire desk, including fatbikes in summer.
Along the trace you are never far from the recreation yard: outdoor gym stations at Oittaan uimarannan ulkokuntosali and Oittaan ulkokuntoiluvälineet, the large Oittaan frisbeegolfrata centre, several parking lots serving the beach and trails, and Oittaan keittokatos for a longer stop with a cooking shelter. Expect other trail users where the MTB line meets the shared fitness and ski network; the adjacent Oittaan kuntorata 2,8km (GPS) is the familiar gravel fitness loop walkers and runners use in summer. Oittaan luontopolku is a separate, signposted nature loop meant for—Espoo’s mountain biking routes hub asks riders to stay on designated MTB tread and leave nature trails for walking. For a skills-and-rolling-practice outing with company, Suomen Latu runs weekly fatbike and MTB group rides staged from Oittaa; Ne Tammelat’s account of one beginner-friendly session highlights how coaches use short climbs, roots, and wooden features to build confidence on local forest soil.
Regionally, that same hub connects Oittaa with Espoo’s longer MTB offerings, including the roughly 4 km line in Espoo Central Park and the roughly 110 km Reitti 2000 backbone across the capital region when you want a bigger day after sampling this trail.
Length & route
About 1.2 km as one point-to-point mountain-bike line on our map beside the Oittaa ski and fitness corridor. The City of Espoo describes the same built feature as roughly 1.3 km of purpose-built MTB tread next to the groomed track. It is not a loop on our line.
Getting there
The unit address published by the City of Espoo is Kunnarlantie 33–39, 02740 Espoo, with general inquiries at +358 9 816 21. Several parking areas serve the beach and trail yard, including Oittaan ulkoilualue parkkipaikka and Oittaan parkkipaikka near the outdoor gym and disc-golf cluster. Visit Espoo outlines public transport from Helsinki and Espoon keskus (trains E and U to Espoon keskus, then bus 246 / 246K) and notes ABC or BC HSL zones depending on your origin. Allow extra time for parking searches on busy beach or ski weekends.
Good to know
Ride only on marked mountain-bike routes; Espoo asks riders to avoid using nature trails such as Oittaan luontopolku for cycling, yield to others, and skip lock-braking on fragile ground. Track status for skiing and beach season follows ulkoliikunta.fi and city pages. There is no dedicated trail lighting for night laps on the MTB line; carry lights if you might finish near dusk. Open-fire rules follow normal municipal land guidance at the cooking shelter.
Where to rent bikes
In summer, Visit Espoo notes fatbikes, canoes, SUP boards, and other gear from the leisure-centre café or the beach rental desk at Oittaa. In winter, Hiihto Center’s rental at Oittaa covers ski gear.
Guided tours & Experiences
Suomen Latu Oittaa runs weekly mountain-bike and fatbike group rides staged from the area, with schedules on their Oittaa MTB pages and Facebook announcements.
