Description
Kopparnäs Coast Trail is about 3.9 km of marked loop walking and easy mountain biking on open rock slabs, forest, and shoreline in the Kopparnäs–Störsvik recreation and nature reserve on the Inkoo–Siuntio border in Uusimaa. The Uusimaa Recreation Area Association, known as Uuvi, keeps the authoritative network descriptions, accessibility notes, dog and fire rules, and service list for the whole area on its Kopparnäs-Störsvik page.
The loop threads the western Kopparnäs headland so you keep crossing between cliff tops with sea glimpses, patches of heath and reed margins, and short forest connectors. Orange blazes on trees and metal pegs on bare rock mark this route together with the other official loops; Uuvi treats all Kopparnäs–Störsvik trails as shared hiking and cycling paths, so give cyclists space and brake for walkers. In wet or frosty weather the rock benches turn slippery; the association warns about that for every rocky loop here, and a detailed walk-through on Retkipaikka shows mesh-topped wooden bridges on the steepest steps.
For practical stops along this line, you pass Kopparnäs Parking and, a little farther on the trace, Kopparnäsintie parkkipaikka—handy if you want a northern access along Kopparnäsintie. About 2.3 km in you reach Klobbackan parkkipaikka before the shore swings toward Kopparnäs - veneenlaskupaikka, Östervikin keittokatos for sheltered cooking, Parking Rävberget, Rävberget parkkipaikka, Rävberget keittokatos, then the western Bergudden cluster: Berguddenin avotulipaikka, Berguddenin Esteetön katos, Bergudden - esteetön tulipaikka, and Bergudden parkkipaikka at Kallioniemi 21. Dry toilets sit near the Rävberget and Bergudden service points; more detail on fees or booking for shelters belongs on our place listings and the association site. Muurahaisten poluilla explains how the same parking network also feeds Sandfjärden beach loops and the shorter Klobbacka circuit if you want to extend the day.
The route meets Rävbergetin reippailu and overlaps trail sections near Brändöskatans bulevard, the Österviken–Sänfjärden shore trail, and Klobbackan kierros, so you can stitch a longer outing without returning to the car. The Degerby visitor pages highlight the bird-protection inlet at Kopparnäs and ask visitors to keep dogs on lead in May and June when woodlarks nest on the rocks.
Read more on our pages for Östervikin keittokatos, Rävberget keittokatos, Berguddenin avotulipaikka, and the parking entries when you plan meals or sort out which lot suits your approach.
Length & route
The trail is about 3.9 km as one continuous loop on this page. It mixes gravelled forest track, rooty paths, and long open-rock traverses with short climbs toward the highest cliff sections on the headland. Uuvi summarises the same named loop at about 4 km with notable height differences and stony tread; all loops here reuse orange markings. Small wooden bridges help on the steepest rock steps.
Getting there
The largest roadside lot many visitors use for loop starts is Kopparnäs Parking at Kopparnäsintie 607, 10160 Inkoo; a second strip beside the road is Kopparnäsintie parkkipaikka near Kopparnäsintie 550. Klobbackan parkkipaikka and the Rävberget-side lots (Parking Rävberget, Rävberget parkkipaikka, addresses on Kopparnäsintie 663 and nearby) offer alternative entry points along the peninsula. Bergudden parkkipaikka sits at Kallioniemi 21 for the western service shelters. Degerby is the nearest village hub; Retkipaikka notes bus connections to Degerby with roughly six kilometres still to cover by car or bike.
Good to know
Open fires are allowed only at map-marked fireplaces; during Finnish forest-fire warnings all outdoor fires are banned. Dogs and other pets must be leashed across the reserve. Tents are prohibited in the Kvarnträsk nature reserve north of the peninsula; elsewhere ordinary camping rules from Uuvi apply. Kvarnträsk lake waters are closed to travel from mid-April through mid-July. Avoid stepping outside marked lines on fragile lichen and heath mats. Winter maintenance clears roads and parking areas, and firewood service continues through winter.
History
The Kopparnäs peninsula was long known for a large apple-trade manor; only stone foundations remain from the old manor buildings and crofts. After the wars much of the inland tract burned during the Soviet lease period, but the Störsvik side kept older forest. Imatran Voima bought the area in the late 1960s for a nuclear power station that was never built; the lands later served training, research, and staff recreation. Southern cliffs still show wind-turbine test footings, and energy willow plantings once trialled here. In 2003 and 2009 ownership transferred to Uuvi and Metsähallitus, which now steward roughly 800 hectares of mainland and more than 15 km of unbuilt shoreline together as a single destination.
