Description

Kasavuori Nature Trail is about 3.4 km of walking in Kauniainen on the wooded Kasavuori hill, the largest continuous green space in the city. The same pages explain how part of the route crosses a nature reserve and what that means for behaviour on site. Mika Markkanen’s Retkipaikka article captures the Stockmann villa foundations and the short climb to the rocky top with views toward Bemböle. Retki ja Reissu’s walk report adds colour on autumn foliage and optional links toward Espoo’s central park from the same trail network. The trail is built around five large information boards and six smaller posts with QR codes; allow about an hour at an easy pace to read and listen. Much of the distance follows wide recreation routes, with narrower forest paths up onto Kasavuori itself. The summit area reaches about 64 m above sea level and rewards a small detour from the main recreation corridor. Along the Kasavuoren kuntorata section you pass facilities such as Kasavuoren ulkokuntosali 2 and Kasavuoren ulkokuntosali 1 and approach Keskusurheilukenttä Kauniainen before the school-side end of the circuit. The route shares ground with Kasavuoren kuntorata and, in winter, overlaps the lit ski connection Bemböle-Kasavuori-Koivuhovi (4km/p+v/valaistu) and Kasavuoren kuntorata/Kauniainen (2km/p/valaistu); when snow allows, the trail page notes you need skis on the track to reach some of the boards in winter. For a longer break with a fire, the half-shelter laavu on Kasavuoren kuntorata has a designated fireplace and firewood supplied by the municipality; rules and contacts are on the City of Kauniainen's laavu page. Berry and mushroom picking are part of the area’s traditional use where rules allow. Dogs must stay on leash year-round throughout Kasavuori forest.

The trail is about 3.4 km end to end as recorded on the route. The city describes a roughly 3 km nature trail within the wider Kasavuori forest recreation area and suggests about an hour for a relaxed visit with all boards and QR stops. Independent trip write-ups often round the walk to about 3.5 km when including the rocky summit detour.

Getting there

From the Kauniainen side, join the kuntorata between Kasavuorentie 1 and 3. From Espoo, follow Kylävainiontie 20 through the Turku motorway underpass and take the recreation route up toward Kasavuori. Many visitors park along Kasavuorentie near Kasavuoren koulu; Retkipaikka lists a parking spot opposite the school on Kasavuorentie. Good to know

On the kuntorata section the trail page describes the nature trail as barrier-free, while the climb onto Kasavuori uses forest paths. During forest-fire warnings, follow Ilmatieteen laitos alerts and the laavu rules for open fire. The nature-reserve stretch forbids camping, motor vehicles, and activities that harm habitats; picking berries and mushrooms remains allowed under the posted rules. History

Frans Stockmann, from the department-store family, and his wife Edith planned a large villa on Kasavuori; both died in the 1918–1919 influenza pandemic before the house was finished, leaving only the stone foundations—often called Stockmannin rauniot—which trip writers still point out beside the trail.
