Description
The city of Lohja in Uusimaa hosts this marked mountain-bike loop on its central esker. Lohjanharju MTB Trail is about 8.3 km long as one loop, maintained by Lohja Trails ry in partnership with Lohjan Liikuntakeskus. For downloadable maps, helmet and sharing rules, and what is available at the swim hall during opening hours, use the Lohjan Liikuntakeskus mtb trail page. The club site explains the 2019 volunteer build, continuing upkeep, and how the line runs near the ski-track network on Harju. Suomen Pyöräily lists the association’s coaching, events, and link to this trail as its flagship local route. Länsi-Uusimaa described the 2019 opening day and how riders talked about flowing trail, a few technical spots, and names such as the Korpi opening, the Vienonen climb, and the Turvasyherö direction on the roughly eight-kilometre loop.
The ride threads forest and esker ground beside the Harjun latu winter ski corridors and crosses under highway 25 at underpasses described in the 2019 Lohjan Liikuntakeskus Harju outdoor announcement. The opening section along the Korpi stretch is the most technical on published guidance, with rider-built berms, a bridge, and small jumps added over time. Easier pedalling sections still reward pace and line choice. Near the start, the sports campus around Lohjan jäähalli and Virkistysuimala Neidonkeidas is busy with halls and outdoor pieces such as Harjun portaat; farther along, Aurlahden ulkokuntosali sits where Harju meets Aurlahti’s shore activity. Around the Gunnarlan halli and Kantarelli disc-golf pair, Harju connects to the Latu Harju–Gunnarlan maja and Kuntorata Harju–Gunnarlan maja fitness loops, while the Matkaluistelurata Aurlahti–Hevossaari winter skating route uses the same lake setting in cold months. Plan crossings and line choice so skiers, runners on Harjun kuntorata, and walkers stay safe.
Length & route
About 8.3 km as one loop on our trail line. Municipal copy used roughly 8 km when the route opened and about 9 km in one planning article—the shape follows the same marked circuit with small rounding differences.
Getting there
Start and finish at the corner of Lohjan jäähalli, Rajavartiostonkatu 1, 08100 Lohja; the route leaves under a large tree-mounted sign with generous parking around the ice hall and swim hall lots. During Neidonkeidas opening hours the swim centre offers washrooms and a café for cyclists. A PDF map and guide are on the Lohjan Liikuntakeskus mtb page.
Good to know
The Liikuntakeskus page flags the nearby Padelonia centre as something to notice along the ride and stresses helmet use, riding within your ability, and warning other trail users. During winter, cross-country tracks on Harjun latu and the Aurlahti touring skate route have priority in the same landscape—expect mixed winter use and avoid interfering with ski preparation.
History
Lohja Trails ry delivered the marked line in 2019 after spring preparation and summer finishing work, supported by Lohjan Liikuntakeskus signage purchases, sponsors such as JK-Shop, Virkblad, and Virkkalan Urheiluliike, and hundreds of volunteer hours from layout to mowing and feature building. An opening festival drew well over a hundred riders from across Uusimaa once the trail went live.
Counterclockwise circuit from the ice-hall grass field: north side of Harju toward Tynninharju, return along the south side past Meriturva to the hall, using highway 25 underpasses rather than crossing at grade.
Route direction
Marked as the dedicated MTB line through Harju outdoor terrain with clear signing at the start tree and route posts along the bike corridor; follow the bike-specific symbols and respect routes used by other sports.
