Description

The Karnaistenkorven retkeily- ja luontopolut trail is about 5,4 km through Karnaistenkorpi, the largest continuous forest recreation block in Lohja, Uusimaa. Bedrock, forest structure, the two forest ponds (Ahvenalampi and Sorvalampi), and how the area is zoned for recreation are summarized on the same site under Karnaistenkorpi. From the north, many visitors walk in past Kisakallion urheiluopisto: after a short connector from the sports institute yards, red and yellow markings begin toward Suoniementaival. The traditional nature trail uses red markings and twelve nature points about local plants and animals; a separate story trail for families uses yellow markings with booklet or QR tasks. Korkiamäen retkeilypolku is a blue-marked loop that can be joined from the south near Jantoniementie or combined with the nature trails for a longer day; brown-marked lines describe MTB access along maintenance tracks toward the laavu ponds. Length & route

The trail on our map is about 5,4 km as one continuous line. The City of Lohja describes the wider Karnaistenkorpi trail network as offering marked routes from about 2 km up to 7,7 km, including the red nature trail, yellow story trail, blue Korkiamäki hiking loop, and brown-marked MTB connectors to the pond laavut. Some trip write-ups treat a combined luontopolku plus Korkiamäki loop on the order of about 6,6 km. If you only follow this published line, you still pass both main laavut; longer options are on the municipal PDF map.

Getting there

The City of Lohja lists signed parking at Suoniementaival 28 / Suoniementaipale on the north side and a smaller lot along Jantoniementie on the south (room for roughly ten cars). You can also start from Kisakallion urheiluopisto: the courtyard has a connector path and an information board with maps linking into the red and yellow routes. Korkiamäen retkeilypolku is described as starting from Jantoniementie when you want the blue loop first. Confirm the exact lot and winter access on the City of Lohja retkeily pages before you leave.

History

Karnaistenkorpi was zoned as a recreation area in Lohja’s 1992 local master plan; the coastal mire around Ahvenalampi is marked as a valuable nature target. The regional plan later reinforced Karnaistenkorpi for hiking and recreation, and the city resolved to keep the block outside ordinary timber production for recreation, protection, and tourism.
