Paloniemi nature and culture trail is an about 0.9 km loop on the former Paloniemi manor lands a short drive northwest of Lohja centre in Uusimaa. Length & route

The loop is about 0.9 km. Yellow spots painted on trees mark the route; dry weather and ordinary walking shoes are enough for most visitors. The terrain mixes grove, meadow, and rocky slopes with interpretation posts about species, manor history, and relics. Getting there

The signed start sits on Paloniementie just south of the Kartanomäki care unit, at an information board with printed maps and QR access to a digital map. Use the small parking area beside the board at Paloniementie 68, 08450 Lohja. Hikers describe room for about five or six cars on the spur next to the board. From central Lohja, Paloniementie turns off Karsuntie near the old Siwa corner in directions walkers often repeat.

History

The Paloniemi estate’s main house was designed by Eliel Saarinen; it burned on 6 January 1950 and the surviving built heritage includes the barn and summer pavilion. Grazing shaped the meadows until recent decades, after which the City of Lohja resumed mowing and clearing brush on its four-hectare holding. The nature and culture trail opened in summer 2013 with marking and structures built by the Mahis nature work crew and interpretation texts prepared by Lohja environmental protection staff with summer workers.
