Description

Ollisaari Sauna is a wood-fired sauna building on Ollisaari in Lohja on Lake Lohjanjärvi, a six-hectare island recreation destination managed by Uuvi. Uuvi states that the main building, the sauna, and the dry toilet at the south tip are temporarily closed; the island still has marked campfire sites by the dock and at the southern point, a woodshed, a shelter canopy, a dock, an information board, a swimming spot, and dry toilets north of the sauna. Fire is allowed only at the marked campfire sites when no forest fire warning is in force. Pets must be kept on a leash. The hand-pump well near the main building is not drinking water; bring your own drinking water. Recommended tent camping is on the north side of the main building. Stay on the marked path in the sensitive northern vegetation. In summer you can reach the island by boat, canoe, stand-up paddle, or the water taxi linked from Uuvi; in winter, ice conditions permitting, access can also be over the ice. The City of Lohja has announced scheduled water taxi runs from Aurlahti; for current timetables and fares use the operator linked from Uuvi or Venetaxi.com. The island lies a short distance from central Lohja and connects to wider lake routes; nearby on the island you will find Ollisaari Laituri, Ollisaaren tulipaikka, Ollisaari Cooking Shelter, and Ollisaari - Melojille soveltuva rantautumispoukama. Hevossaaren Laavu and Kaurassaaren laavu are other lean-tos on neighbouring islets. Ollisaari Island Trail, the Lohjanjärvi Kayak Island Tour paddling route, the Liessaari Nature and Wellbeing Trail on the shore nearby, and the winter ice route between Aurlahti and Hevossaari pass through or relate to visits in this part of the lake. Uuvi is developing the island further under the Ollisaari project.

Getting there

Reach Ollisaari by your own boat, canoe, or paddle craft, or use the water taxi service linked from Uuvi and Venetaxi.com. The City of Lohja has published Aurlahti departure information for past seasons; confirm current times with the operator before you travel. Moor at Ollisaari Laituri or the sandy shore on the east side as Uuvi describes. In suitable winter ice conditions, access over the ice is possible.

Good to know

The sauna building and main cabin are closed until further notice. For reopening, rules, and service changes during the Ollisaari development project, rely on Uuvi. Uuvi notes that the island currently has no accessible services and the terrain is uneven.

Price info

General recreation on the island follows Uuvi's outdoor area rules. The sauna itself is not available while closed. Water taxi fares are set by the commercial operator; the City of Lohja has published example return ticket pricing for past summer schedules.
