Description

Isosuo Nature Trail is about a 3 km marked circuit on duckboards and short forest links around Klaukkalan Isosuo raised bog in Nurmijärvi, beside the developing Vanha-Klaukka neighbourhood in Uusimaa. Uuvi lists parking, marker colours, on-leash dog rules, the short accessible spur, and the blue and yellow loop lengths for this site. The City of Nurmijärvi built the boardwalk network to keep visitors on hardened tread and lighten pressure on the protected Natura mire. Official copy on both pages describes two colour-coded loops you can walk as one outing: blue on the northern ring and yellow on the southern ring, joined by a short connector. The landscape is mostly level mire with interpretation boards on bog plants, peatland types, and narrow strips of forest; dry benches sit at rest points rather than campfire rings, because open fires are not allowed on the protected mire. Start from the Klaukkala ice hall side of the sports block: a gravel approach leads to the forest edge where the loops split left and right. You can leave cars near Klaukkalan jäähalli and the dedicated Isosuon luontopolku parkkipaikka—both sit in the same convenient cluster off Lepsämäntie. Retkipaikka walked both rings clockwise in one go, noted blue diamond markers once the duckboards begin a few hundred metres in, and allowed around 50 minutes for the roughly three-kilometre outing with plenty of other day hikers on a sunny Sunday. Staying on the built route protects the Natura mire after past extraction work and machine access during construction. Waterproof shoes are still a sensible backup after wet weather, but the duckboards kept the going easy when Retkipaikka visited.

Length & route

The trail on our map is about 3 km as one walkable circuit around Isosuo. Uuvi breaks that down as roughly 2.2 km on the blue northern loop, 0.7 km on the yellow southern loop, and about 2.9 km if you join both via the short link—figures that round cleanly to the same outing. Expect mostly duckboards with compacted gravel on the approach.

Getting there

Drive to Lepsämäntie 12 in Klaukkala (postal code 01800 Nurmijärvi). Uuvi directs visitors from Klaukkalan jäähallin pysäköintipaikka straight onto the trail; the same yard includes a bus stop for public transport. The City of Nurmijärvi describes a gravel path from the ice-hall parking to the forest edge where the blue and yellow loops branch. Use Isosuon luontopolku parkkipaikka if that dedicated stall is easier on busy days.

Good to know

Campfires are prohibited and dogs must stay on leash. A roughly 200 m accessible spur reaches the western rest deck with benches. Future housing construction could shift the formal trailhead when a planned park corridor from Vanha-Klaukka opens.

History

Commercial peat cutting on Isosuo lasted into the 1980s; a narrow peat railway and a mill for drying peat for barn litter operated in the 1970s, and ruins of the old peat-pressing plant remain visible in places. After extraction ended, hydrology work such as blocking ditches has supported mire recovery alongside the new visitor boardwalks designed to steer foot traffic off sensitive peat.
