Description

The Seittelin Trail is about 4.1 km as a circular hiking route on the western shore of Lake Tuusula in Tuusula. For the Metsähallitus trail listing and map, start with the Luontoon.fi page for Seittelinreitti. The Uusimaa Recreation Area Association (Uuvi) manages Sarvikallio together with the municipality of Tuusula; their Sarvikallio area page describes the loop, orange route marking, clockwise recommended direction, winter maintenance on the access road and parking, fire rules, and services such as firewood at the fireplaces. Visit Tuusulanjärvi introduces the cliff view, the short gravel approach from the parking area, and how Seittelinreitti fits the wider lake shore. From Sarvikallion parkkipaikka the route climbs through mixed forest and old-growth patches toward Sarvikallion Laituri and the Sarvikallio shore, where a staircase leads down to the small pier. Around the midpoint you pass Sarvikallion Nuotiopaikka 2, Sarvikallion tulentekopaikka, and Fjällbonpuiston nuotiopaikka, with dry toilets including an accessible unit along the Sarvikallio section—handy for a longer stop before you swing south through Fjällbonpuisto. Toward the end of the loop, Anttilanrannan grillipaikka sits near the lake before the trail returns toward the parking area. In winter the same shore is linked to maintained ski connections such as Jäälatu Tuusula, Yhdyslatu Järvenpäähän, and Yhdyslatu Tuusulanjärven jääladulle where those tracks are groomed. Luontopolkumies Mika Markkanen’s Retkipaikka article notes a mostly gravel surface, clear signposts at junctions, a long boardwalk section over wet ground early on, a viewpoint toward Seittelinlahti before the climb, and roughly fifty minutes of walking without long breaks—also that joggers and cyclists share the path, so walkers should expect others passing by.

Length & route

The trail is about 4.1 km as one continuous loop. Published descriptions of the same route often give about 3.4–3.7 km depending on how the loop is measured. The surface is mostly compacted gravel with duckboards over wet sections, a short unsurfaced forest stretch on the final climb to Sarvikallio, and moderate height differences overall.

Getting there

Drive to Sarvikallion parkkipaikka at Sarvikalliontie 35, 04300 Tuusula: from national road 45 turn onto Nummenväylä, which becomes Paijalantie, then after about 2 km turn right onto Sarvikalliontie and continue about 150 m to the parking area. Uuvi states the road and parking are ploughed in winter. The nearest bus stop is near Paijala school, about 1.7 km on foot; Järvenpää and Kerava railway stations are practical railheads for continuing by bus or bicycle.

Good to know

Campfires are allowed only at designated fireplaces; during wildfire warnings open fires are prohibited. Camping is not allowed on the nature reserve summit; elsewhere on the recreation area casual camping may follow everyman’s rights within limits shown on the map. Dogs must be kept on leash. When cycling, match your speed to other users.

History

The summit of Sarvikallio became a nature reserve in 2017 as part of the Luontolahja satavuotiaalle campaign marking Finland’s centenary; artists of the Tuusulanjärvi community picnicked and painted here in the early 1900s, nicknaming the cliff “Little Koli”.
