Description

Pitkäkoski nature trail is about 1.5 km along the Vantaa River in Ylästö, Vantaa, through Pitkäkosken luonnonsuojelualue. Open fires and camping are not allowed; pack out litter and treat bird nesting seasons as extra sensitive. The route is in Vantaa in Uusimaa.

Length & route

The trail is about 1.5 km along the Vantaa bank inside the city nature reserve. UUVI sometimes rounds the path to about one kilometre in prose while describing the same marked loop beside the rapids. Terrain is mostly easy and flat, but the municipal page warns of a short steep climb from the Kuninkaantie bridge direction, stairs on the Ylästö side, and mid-route steps down toward the river. Duckboards and wooden stair structures appear in the steeper bank sections.

Getting there

The City of Vantaa lists Jokitie 10 as the service address and describes access from the end of Jokitie and beside Pitkäkoski bridge from Kuninkaantammentie; the nearest bus stop is about 1 km away at Ollaksentie and Isonmännyntie. UUVI repeats the Jokitie and bridge access and links HSL routing toward Ylästö. Matkalla maailmalla suggests roughly 420 m on foot from the Jokitie parking pocket in Syyrakki to the trail’s east end, and notes a bike rack on the Vantaa side of Pitkäkoski bridge; Pitkäkosken parkkipaikka beside Kuninkaantammentie is the usual bay for drivers using the Helsinki-side maja services before crossing the footbridge.

Good to know

Campfires, camping, and cycling are prohibited in the reserve; dogs must be on leash and nesting season may restrict leaving the marked path. The Pitkäkoski footbridge leads to Helsinki-side Central Park paths and Pitkäkosken ulkoilumaja services, which are managed by the City of Helsinki rather than Vantaa.
