Description

Kiviniemi sauna is a free wood-heated hiking sauna on the shore of Lake Herajärvi in Kontiolahti, North Karelia, kept for trekkers on Lake Herajärvi Circuit and other marked trails around the lake. The Municipality of Kontiolahti describes access and maintenance together with Metsähallitus for the wider trail system. The marked Lake Herajärvi Circuit loop is about 61 km in total, split into northern and southern rings that meet near Kiviniemi farm; Metsähallitus co-manages the trail framework with local partners. Parts of the route enter Koli National Park while other sections use shoreline paths. Next to the sauna there is a wooden shelter and a campfire place. Firewood is available, but PlayKontiolahti asks you to split smaller pieces so they suit the stove. Carry washing water from the lake and treat it before drinking. Lake Herajärvi Circuit passes here; the northern section is described on Luontoon.fi. Getting there
