Description

Aurinkolatu is a mountain-biking and walking trail network on a former sand and gravel extraction pit at Pitkäkangas near Haapajärvi in North Ostrobothnia. The mapped cycling line is about 4.9 km. The City of Haapajärvi publishes the full Finnish route text, maintenance phone numbers for Kumisevan Kaiku cooperative, and seasonal use rules on its Aurinkolatu page. On the ground the network splits into two marked options: Aurinkolatu 1 follows an easier blue-marked line of about 2 km with only small height differences along the pit margins, aimed at walkers and gentler riding. Aurinkolatu 2 is a red-marked, more demanding loop with long steep climbs and descents on the quarry slopes; the city text recommends circling it clockwise when cycling and reminds riders that the soft surface can spin wheels on climbs. Tracks are intentionally wide enough for winter grooming to lay parallel classic and skate lanes. Terrain is very fine sand and silt with patches of bright moss on the edges, and planted larch appears in places on the harder loop. Open fire is prohibited; there are no huts or toilets on the trail itself. Getting there

From Haapajärvi town centre, drive Highway 27 toward Pyhäjärvi for about 1.5 km, turn right toward Kumiseva, follow Kumisevantie about 5.7 km through the village, then continue straight on Pitkänkankaantie about 4.8 km.
