Natura Viva, Metsähallitus’s outdoor partner in Teijo, describes the day walk from Kirjakkala ironworks village around Lake Hamarijärvi—the park’s largest lake—with a drinking-water tap and outhouse at the Onnelannummi rental camping halfway, a lakeshore campfire stop at the south end, and views from the Nikkallio cliff. Retkipaikka’s walk-through calls the Hamarijärvi shoreline stretch a highlight among forest, shore path, and open rock, and notes a recommended clockwise loop from the campsite junction past pine forest and a short power-line crossing. Muuttuja matkassa reports white paint blazes on trees and extra care on frosty rock at Nikkallio in cold weather. The trail is about 3.2 km on the map as one continuous line. It begins at the Kirjakkala heritage cluster: you pass Kirjakkalan Patotalo, Kirjakkalan sauna, Kirjakkalan Kjällman/Laakso, Kirjakkalan Patruuna, Kirjakkalan Insinööritalo, and Kirjakkalan pysäköintialue before the path threads past Kirjakkalan urheilukenttä and Kirjakkalan saunan laituri. Salo is a practical base for reaching Kirjakkala. Salon Kohteet ties the longer Salo–Lehmijärvi–Kirjakkala hiking trail (Teijo National Park) corridor to this trailhead and points to Onnelannummen reitti from the ironworks village, with marked access from the regional walking route network in summer. The long-distance Rannikkoreitti cycling route shares the Kirjakkala waterfront, and Nenustannokka Trail lies close by for visitors building a longer day.

Length & route

The route is about 3.2 km as one line on the map. It is mostly an out-and-back from Kirjakkala with a loop around Lake Hamarijärvi past Onnelannummi and Nikkallio; some brochures round the full walk to about four kilometres when they include the same shore loop.

Getting there

Park at Kirjakkalan pysäköintialue next to the Kirjakkala ironworks services; Retkipaikka gives Hamarijärventie 88, Salo, for the start area. The Salo–Lehmijärvi–Kirjakkala brochure on Salon Kohteet also lists Kirjakkala parking at Hamarijärventie 62 as a trailhead for the regional hiking route into the national park. Check Metsähallitus for any changes to roads, parking, or public transport.

Good to know

The Onnelannummi area includes a bookable group camping and cooking shelter; Natura Viva states the camping is a paid rental area with a water point and outhouse. Bring your own toilet paper to backcountry toilets if cold weather has emptied dispensers—one family blog noted that need in winter. Ice or wet rock on Nikkallio can be slippery; traction aids help in frost.
